Cultural Competence for people working the mental health sector

This ½ day course is aimed at those who are working in the field of mental health and who wish to ensure that their practice is culturally sensitive.

  • Be familiar with some of the current issues that have been identified as contributing to mental ill-health within the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) community
  • Have an increased awareness of the relationship between cultural values and assumptions and mental health
  • Have an increased confidence in working with patients from a BME Background, including the confidence to ask questions
  • Have a basic knowledge of the religious and cultural norms of the main BME groups in their area.
